We are a group of European Dance Movement Therapists, supporting Dance Movement Therapy research, training and practice. One of our present major goals is the foundation of a European Dance Movement Therapy Association.

European Association Dance Movement Therapy

European Association Dance Movement Therapy (EADMT) founded October 25th 2010

The new EADMT Board are delighted to announce the founding of the DMT profession’s European Association. The Inaugural General Meeting took place on the 25th of October 2010 in Munich, Germany. The BTD and Susanne Bender, President of BTD, hosted the event at Tanzetherapie Zentrum, the registered domicile address of our new Association. The founding of the Association has been overseen by the German legal process and has since been approved by the Notary in Munich following the Inaugural Meeting.

Eleven European Associations participated in this significant event: 24 people attended with 4 additional observers. The primary tasks of the Inaugural meeting were to adopt the EADMT Statutes, Ethical Code and Rules of Procedures and to elect the first EADMT Board. Proposals were made, discussed, agreed and carried forward and the Board elect is Susan Scarth as President, Antonella Monteleone as Secretary General and Nina Alcalay as Treasurer with Kristine Vende taking on the remit of Communications.



Mission Statement

The European Association Dance Movement Therapy (EADMT) represents national professional Dance Movement Therapyassociations in Europe, working actively to promote their further developmentof professional practice and the legal recognition of the profession. The EADMTassures and promotes the quality of Dance Movement Therapy practice and trainings in Europe for the protection of clients, professionals andinstitutions. The EADMT aims to nurture mutual respect of differences and to foster exchange and collaboration between member countries.

Aim

The aim of the EADMT is to establish andmaintain professional standards for Dance Movement Therapy in Europe.

Objectives

The objectives of theEADMT are:
to promote a Europeanprofessional identity for DMT whilst respecting cultural, social, and economicdiversity;
to develop and formulaterequirements for DMT training and practice in Europe;
to develop and formulaterequirements to become a recognized DMT professional association within theEADMT;
to maintain and regularlyupdate common European standards for regulation of DMT professionalassociations within the EADMT;
to further research andcollaborative opportunities in DMT and related fields;
to work towards Europeanwide recognition and funding of DMT as a profession;
to seek representation of the DMT profession with the authorities of the European Union and of any other authority and/ ororganization that deals directly or indirectly with issues related to DMT;
to offer opportunitiesfor networking and dialogue for developing national associations, trainings andpractitioners;
to monitor and developstandards of education and training in DMT;
to investigate thepotential exchange of DMT teaching staff and students within Europe;
to support any other activity that may favour the accomplishment of the objectives mentioned above.
